i’m on season 4 of B99 now, and I’ve seen some ppl say that the writing in the later seasons gets more, for lack of a better term, PC in the later seasons. i wasn’t expecting to really notice but i’m currently 13 episodes into season 4 and it is actually a very significant increase
opinions under the cut
it isn’t necessarily bad, but season four has had WAY more jokes related to identity politics (that doesnt feel like a good description but i cant think of a better way) than the previous seasons
off the top of my head; transphobia, feminism, homophobia, and gun control were all brought up in the span of one three episode arc. two episodes heavily involved/mentioned sexism/feminism, and one i just watched had a joke of “men are awful”
some of these are jokes and some of them aren’t, some of them are funny some of them aren’t, and most importantly some of them are well-written, aaaand some of them aren’t
i don’t think my overall enjoyment of the show is decreasing bcus of this, it’s still just about as hit-or-miss as it has always been. i’ve still really liked certain episodes and been entirely underwhelmed by others. but the change in writing is definitely there, and i admit i’m not a huge fan of it, especially when it feels kind of out-of-left-field and awkward
