ther’es apparently a story going around saying that vanilla ice cream used to be black instead of white

and i mean. it’s not like vanilla ice cream is ONLY vanilla beans. the beans are black, yeah, but the cream and sugar that’s also in ice cream are white, or at least beige. and there’s more of that in the ice cream than there is vanilla beans.

like, you dont need a lot of vanilla in a recipe to get the vanilla flavor, having ENOUGH vanilla beans to make the ice cream black would make it, probably, disgusting and overpowering

(and also there are photos from way back when that show ppl eating pale-colored ice cream but you dont even totally need that info to figure that it’s bogus)

i’ve believed silly stories like that in the past so i cant completely blame anyone that just accepts it at face value, but that’s definitely one of the funnier things i’ve heard recently lol
