so facebook has all of these options in drop-down menus for relationships (familial and otherwise), but they don’t allow you to apply “husband”, “wife” or “partner” to more than one person

they have three different listings of “cousin” for male, female and gender-neutral, despite the fact that cousin is already a gender neutral term

but i can’t call two people my “partners”

i mean, i cant anyway bcus only one of them has a facebook and that’s fine BUT THIS IS A MATTER OF PRINCIPLE! It’s bothered me for a while!

you can list someone as your pet, but not your spouse if you already have one listed

I was wondering when we can expect Hamilton to get a film adaptation (considering it’s a widely popular Broadway musical like Phantom and Les Mis, it’s probably going to get a film at some point), so I looked into how long it took other musicals to get movies.

And from what I’ve found…it’s fucking impossible to tell.

The more popular ones seem to take much, MUCH longer to adapt, which is strange to me.

Les Mis took 32 years. Premiered in 1980, movie in 2012.

Phantom of the Opera took 18 years. Premiered in 1986 and got a movie in 2004.

Sweeney Todd took 28 years. 1979 to 2007.

Into The Woods ALSO took 28 years. 1986 to 2014.

Rent only took 12 years, interestingly. It premiered in 1993 and got a movie in 2005.

Mamma Mia was only 12 years. 1999 to 2008

West Side Story, much older, took only 4 years. It premiered in 1957 and got a movie in 1961. Weird.

And Sound of Music only took 6 years. From 1959 to 1965.

Cats and Wicked both haven’t gotten adaptations yet, which premiered in 1981 and 2003 respectfully. Those are obviously two very different time frames, but they’re both very, very popular so it’s a little surprising neither of them have one. Although, they both have *plans* to make one, but those seem to be in a bit of limbo.

SO YEAH this became a weird “lemme research this more than is worthwhile” but it’s really tough to tell whether Hamilton will get a movie any year now, or if it’ll take until like, 2035 before we hear anything.

i wish america had more 2D animated/CGI movies made for mature audiences that WERENT like Sausage Party. Like, whatever, SP has it’s audience and that’s fine, but I wish that wasn’t….so much of what’s available, you know?

Like, a lot of animated movies aimed at older people are based on already existing tv shows. The Simpsons movie, the South Park movie, the Futurama movie(s), Beavis and Butthead, Drawn Together, etc. A good portion of the US movies on the wikipedia list for adult animated films are based on series or some other already-existing adult media.

The original movies that aren’t adaptations of stuff (as far as I know) seem to be stop-motion a lot of the time, which is unexpected to me, or something like Team America where it’s puppets and shit. Then there’s the Roger Rabbit-style movies, with tradtional animation inserted onto live action scenes. These are all fine, don’t get me wrong, i love the whole Roger Rabbit thing, but I’m specifically talking about a straight-up animated movie, no live action, just regular animation or CGI. I know I’m splitting hairs but, point stands.

There are some, but from what I can tell a fair amount of them are like…sex or violence oriented, specifically. And once again, that isn’t necessarily a problem, but I want more adult movies that deal with mature themes without having to be 90% blood and tits. Blood and tits can be great! But I’m a nuanced person a’ight, i want more than just that.

Like, idk, I just want more variety in adult animated movies, and also, just more of them in general. The wiki page is like 70% japanese stuff lmao, which is fine because I watch that anyway, but i want america to get it’s ass in gear in that regard.
