When an audience member asked her about a scene in Season 1 when her mermaid character Ryn got into bed with Ben (Alex Roe) and Ben’s girlfriend Maddie (Fola Evans-Akingbola), leading her to wonder whether mermaids are polyamorous, Powell laughed. Then after a quick glance at her executive producers Eric Wald and Emily Whitesell, the actress replied that mermaids “are a sensual species” and they’re basically open to the idea.
