What if you had the power to decide who lives and who dies?

The teaser trailer for Death Note suggests you obey the rules. The Netflix original film will premiere on the streaming service on August 25.

Based on the popular Japanese manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, the American adaptation of Death Note is directed by Adam Wingard (Blair Witch, You’re Next).

Nat Wolff (Paper Towns), Margaret Qualley (The Leftovers), Lakeith Stanfield (Get Out), Paul Nakauchi (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End), Shea Whigham (American Hustle), and Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) star.

Death Note follows a high school
student who comes across a supernatural notebook, realizing it holds
within it a great power; if the owner inscribes someone’s name into it
while picturing their face, he or she will die. Intoxicated with his new
godlike abilities, the young man begins to kill those he deems unworthy
of life.

The red band trailer for Life gives away several plot details, so you if you want to go into the movie with as little knowledge as possible, I recommend skipping this one. The sci-fi thriller hits theaters on March 24 via
Columbia.

Life is directed by Daniel Espinosa (Safe House), written
by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool), and stars Jake
Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson, Ryan Reynolds, Hiroyuki
Sanada, Ariyon Bakare, and Olga Dihovichnaya.

Life is a terrifying sci-fi thriller about a team of scientists aboard
the International Space Station whose mission of discovery turns to one
of primal fear when they find a rapidly evolving life form that caused
extinction on Mars, and now threatens the crew and all life on Earth.
